"Ok, It's not much further."  Hope peeked around one of the many corners of the labrinth of hallways.  "Don't worry, I'll get us out of here." She glanced back at Vexx.  The boy was limping awkwardly behind her, with one taloned hand on the decayed wall for support.  She had managed to pick the locks holding the chains around Vexx's small body but the hours of imprisonmant had taken affect, she couldn't see them but she knew there must be painfully large brusies where the chains were.  
Hope looked left then right, she held up one hand, a sign for silence, and closed her eyes.  Vexx gave her an odd look.  She was of the same spiecies of the ones who had took him captive for no reason but she did fight off the guards, set him free, was now leading him to promised freedom with caution he had never seen before, not even he had to sneak around so much.  This place seemed abandoned as it was crumbling so what was the big deal?  And what was she listening so hard for?  Why did she want to help him?  There were so many questions he wanted to ask her but thought he never will due to his lack of a voice.  
Hope used her power to search for a way out.  To the right...a flight of stairs...a locked door...guards...turn left...won't see them... door with a broken lock...
Suddenly something else interfered with her preception.  Hope reached out to look at it with her mind and she felt the very lifeblood in her veins freeze.  
Hope gabbed Vexx in one arm and ran.  Vexx was too startled to protest, he found himself pressed tight against the girls chest with his head looking over her shoulder, he could feel her heart pounding violently and his vision blurred as they passed everything with great speed.    
Then he heard it.  A sound of screeching metal echoed from the darkness behind them.  A pause.  It came again.  This time Vexx saw something that automaticly made his talons buzz with energy.  Reacting to the sudden feeling of fear.  
Hope ran like a madwoman from the flaming pits of Hell itself.  Weaving in and out of the hallways and the connected rooms, hardly pausing to smash in a veiwing window and kick in a door and continue sprinting out into the misty, silent world.  
Hope continued running, ignoring the staggering figures that lurked in the distances.  Down the streets and allyways finally comming to an abandoned building and ducking under the woodwork and dropping down into a sitting postion, gasping for breath.  
Vexx carefully detached himself from the girl and was shocked when he looked at her face.  
Hope's eyes were streached wide with pure terror flickering in them.  Her face was pale as death, trembling in violent spasems, sweat dreanched her face and clothes and her breath came out in ragged frantic gasps.  Vexx crawled close to her to the point where he could see her hands shaking.  Vexx gently placed his hand on her shoulder, to let her know that everything was alright now even though he wasn't so sure of it.  
Hope begane to relacxe a bit. *"Were ok"*  she kept saying to herself *"Were ok..."*  There was a strange feeling in her head, like a soft sound she could not identify but she put it aside foe now.
Vexx looked around *"Where are we?"* he thought to himself.
"What?" Hope said and look at Vexx.  "Did you say something?"  Vexx shook his head *"Not out loud."*  "Not what out loud?"  asked Hope.  She shook her head.  "I'm losing it I think."  Vexx was staring at her.  Hesitantly the thought *"Can you hear me?  I'm right next to you."*  Hope jerked her head at Vexx.  They both stared st each other for what felt like an eternity.  Finally Hope asked "Did you just say in your head "Can you hear me? I'm right next to you?"
Vexx paused before nodding yes.
